Taber Library offers 'puppy patron' cards

Apr 18, 2012

The puppies of Marion have made names for themselves at the Elizabeth Taber Library.

“Puppy Patron” cards are now available for all canines in town who frequent the library and want to become a part of the borrower’s circle.

Pets, especially dogs and cats, have always been welcome said Director Judy Kleven.

“There’s a whole long list of people who come in with their pets,” Kleven said. “We have treats and cookies for them. The dogs drag their owners in here. I’m not kidding.”

A few months ago, Kleven and her staff designed the cards, which feature caligraphy of the pet’s name, and a logo for the  “TAILS” Library Network” as opposed to the SAILS Network, of which Taber Library is a member.

“It’s sort of a pun for a real library card,” Kleven said. “We want to encourage people to come into the library, especially kids. Marion is a very pound-oriented town.”

“We’ve never had a problem with the dogs,” she said. “People love them.”
