Tabor Academy inducts 19 to Cum Laude Society
At Tabor Academy’s graduation on Tuesday, May 26, 19 seniors who have earned top academic honors were inducted into Tabor’s Cum Laude Society. The society was initiated in 1906 to highlight superior academic performance, with chapters granted only to high schools with academic programs that met its stringent standards. Tabor was granted a chapter in 1930.
Inductees wore the gold rope at graduation to indicate their achievement. The day before, they were honored with a reception given for the inductees and their families.
To meet the qualifications of Tabor’s Cum Laude Society, a student must maintain a 90 average in each semester of both junior and senior year within a rigorous and broad course of study to include a minimum of three honors or AP level courses each year. Beyond these academic standards, moral character and school citizenship is also considered by the approving members of the Tabor chapter presided over by faculty member Kelli McSweeney.
The inductees included four students from Marion, and three others from the local area and the Cape: Gwen McCain (Marion), Melissa Hooke (Marion), Julia O’Rourke (Marion), and Abi Taber (Marion). And locally, Jennifer McIntosh (Falmouth), Catherine Stampfli (Mansfield), Kylee Sullivan (Sagamore Beach). The other two American students were: Andrew Paliotta (Warwick, RI), and Julia Wainwright (Gardiner, ME)
The remaining 10 inductees were international students from China, Korea, Thailand and Hong Kong: Frank Fan (China), Hye Rin Joo (Korea), Chae Rin Park (Korea), Jung Yun Park (Korea), Tree Saengja (Thailand), Jackie Shi (China), Jarupa Sodwatana (Thailand), Tanya Tantasathien (Thailand), Adeline Tse (Hong Kong), and Alice Yang (China).
