Tabor hosts Special Olympics basketball tournament

Feb 12, 2017

Instead of sleeping in on Sunday, a group of Tabor Academy students volunteered at the school’s basketball tournament on behalf of Special Olympics Massachusetts.

The tournament welcomed athletes of all ages, with eight teams participating in the tournament. There was also a skills clinic being offered upstairs at the athletic center.

The students are part of the Special Olympics Club which organizes a weekly skills session for young athletes.

This was the school’s second year doing the tournament and student Kendall Sargis said it was an even bigger event than last year.

“It’s so much fun,” she said. “It’s the highlight of my Sunday.”

The students acted as referees and game facilitators and had just as much fun as the athletes.

“It’s so fun and it makes you so happy,” student Emily Tripp said. “It really puts a smile on your face.”
