Tabor students bake, paint boats for Day of Service

May 23, 2019

MARION — On Saturday, May 18 Tabor Academy students stepped into the community for a day of service.

Students baked rolls and cookies, and in the process learned that the Church of the Good Shepherd provides a weekly meal to residents who need good food and fellowship. Other student volunteers learned how the Sippican Lands Trust and Marion Recreation Department plan to open up more space in town. For one project, students built boat cranes that will be used to prepare vessels for a new community sailing program.

Students also raked, weeded, painted, constructed walkways, picked up trash, planted, and provided tech help.

“Today our students learned about the value and dedication of volunteers, many of them retirees well into their late seventies and early eighties, who worked hard alongside our students as
they showed them how to take care of our town parks and church yards and shared their passions with them,” said Tabor’s Director of Communications, Kerry Saltonstall.
