Things to do: appreciate art, discuss literature, go to a potluck supper

Thursday, Nov. 14

Go to Casselberry Faire.

The Rochester Senior Center has a trip to Casselberry Faire at the Shriners Auditorium in Wilmington from 8:30 a.m. to 4:40 p.m.

Friday, Nov. 15

Paint watercolors.

The Marion Art Center will host  continuing and advanced  watercolor painting classes with instructor Jay Ryan on Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon. A four-week session costs $105 for art center members and $125 for non-members while an eight-week session costs $195 for members and $220 for non-members.

Make crafts.

At 3:15 p.m. the Mattapoisett Library will host fall craft sessions for children.

Registration is required for the sessions.

Saturday, Nov.16 

Work on mindfulness.

At 10:30 a.m., local author Wendy O’Neal will present a mindfulness program for children and parents with activities and a small snack at the Mattapoisett Library.

Parents are welcome to find out more and ask questions.

Copies of Wendy O’Neal’s book,“Breathing Makes it Better” will be available. 

Registration is required. The program is recommended for children ages 3 to 8. 

Learn languages.

Each month librarians highlight one of the many online resources the Mattapoisett Library has to offer. 

On Saturday, at 2 p.m., the library will start with a Mango Workshop, showcasing the language learning program.

Learn how to create an account, download and use the program, and get questions answered in an hour-long session.

Librarians recommend bringing a smart device.

Sunday, Nov. 17

Appreciate art and music.

Peter Stone will display his artwork and perform some of his compositions at the Marion Music Hall from 1 to 3 p.m.

He will be joined by local artist Ken Richards, and Butch McCarthy both local musical legends as well as outstanding painters

Discuss literature.

Edward Gorey was one of the foremost creators of nonsense literature.

From 2 to 3 p.m. the Mattapoisett Free Public Library will host Gregory Hischak, curator of the Edward Gorey House in Yarmouthport, to discuss Gorey’s career as well as his cultural influence on design, fashion, film, and literature.

Monday, Nov. 18

Eat lunch.

The Rochester Senior Center will host a special luncheon at noon. A donation of $5 per luncheon is suggested.

Hanna Milhench and her team will prepare a homemade lunch.

Chair Yoga follows Monday luncheons at 1:15 p.m.

Call the Senior Center at 508-763-8723, or stop in to make a reservation. Rides to and from events at the Council on Aging can be scheduled up to 24 hours in advance.

Wednesday, Nov. 20

Go to a potluck supper.

The Rochester Historical Society will host its annual Potluck Supper at the museum and church at 355 County Road at 6 p.m.

Guests should call Connie Eshbach at 508-763-4932 to let her know what they will be bringing.

Last-minute guests are welcome, but still asked to bring something with them.

There is no charge for attending the supper.
