Thursday, Sept. 19

Learn about the eastern states.

The Rochester Senior Center will host an outing to the Eastern States Exposition in Springfield. Senior admission is $12. The fair offers food, entertainment, vendors, the Avenue of New England States, agriculture, livestock, and crafts. The bus will leave the Senior Center at 7:30 a.m. and return at approximately 6 p.m.

Advance sign-up is required for trips to ensure a seat on the bus. Call the Senior Center at 508-763-8723 to sign-up and for trip details.

Go to a pirate program.

STEM at the Mattapoisett Free Public Library will host a program about pirates at 3 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 21

Explore the Radio Tower Property.

The Sippican Lands Trust will host a walk through the woods at their Radio Tower property, starting at the end of Benson Brook Road in Marion at 10 a.m.

The site was once one of the largest telegraph stations in the world. It features old radio tower foundations that once supported 400-foot radio antennas used by the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company of America.

Celebrate Shel Silverstein.

The Mattapoisett Free Public Library will celebrate poet, songwriter, and illustrator Shel Silverstein’s birthday at 10:30 a.m.

Guests are invited to listen to and share their favorite poems by Silverstein.

The library will host similar events each month in honor of different children’s authors.

Go to a gaga tournament

The Mattapoisett Boy Scouts will host a Gaga tournament  from noon to 2 p.m. at the Center School gaga pit.

The game is a variation on dodgeball that happens in an octagonal wooden pit. Players stand with a hand against the wall and hit a ball three times. Then they try to hit other players below the knees to get them out.

The event will also have a spy maze, Mission Impossible laser tunnel, sledges to push and more.

Celebrate with the Friends of Jack.

The Friends of Jack Foundation will host their Fourth Annual Celebration at 6 p.m. at the Bay Club in Mattapoisett..

The event will include dinner, live music, a diamond raffle and an auction.

Funds raised at the event will benefit the Friends of Jack Foundation’s stuffed animal drive, which aims to give a stuffed animal to every child who enters one of the Southcoast hospitals, or their superheroes program, which outfits first responders and medical providers with capes and masks to make children feel like they are safe.

Monday, Sept. 23

Eat a special lunch.

Hanna Milhench will prepare a special luncheon at the Rochester Senior Center at noon.

To attend one of the luncheons, call the Senior Center to make a reservation. Donations of $5 per luncheon are suggested.

Learn about antiques.

Frank McNamee of Marion Antiques Shop will discuss rare antiques he has found in homes at the Benjamin D. Cushing Community Center at 12:30 p.m.

Over the past 40 years, his family business has grown into one of the most respected antiques and appraisal businesses in New England. McNamee encourages attendees to bring an item to this presentation for an appraisal.

A catered lunch of smoky chicken corn chowder will be served at 11:30 a.m. Reservations are required. Call 508-748-3570 to reserve a spot.
