Thursday, Aug. 1
Do yoga.
Heather Hobler from Anchor Yoga in Mattapoisett will lead an outdoor yoga session at the Elizabeth Taber Library from12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Parents are welcome to attend. Sign up at the library and bring a yoga mat.
Picnic at Munro.
The Fourth Annual Great Community Picnic, featuring live entertainment, a cash bar, hors d’oeuvres, and oysters at Munro Preserve (next to the Town Wharf) starting at 5:30 and lasting until 8:30 p.m. The Mattapoisett Museum and Mattapoisett Land Trust jointly host the event. Participants should purchase a table for four at $120, for six at $180, for 8 at $240 or for 10 at $300, and bring their own food, plates and utensils. Friday, Aug. 2
Hear jazz.
At 10:30 a.m. jazz musician Sagit Zilberman will perform for families and children at Rochester’s Plumb Library. All ages are welcome, but registration is required. Weather permitting, this will be an outdoor show at the Plumb Library Gazebo. Otherwise, the show will be held in the First Congregational Church Hall.
Celebrate summer reading.
The Mattapoisett Library will celebrate summer reading with an interactive music concert with Roger Ticknell for kids of all ages. The concert is at 10:30 a.m. Raffle prize winners will be chosen and ice cream will be served.
Play bridge.
The Elizabeth Taber Library will host its third semi-annual Bridge Tournament at 2 p.m. at the Marion Music Hall. Proceeds will benefit the library. For more information, contact Elizabeth Sherry at 508-758-1252.
Tour Ned’s Point.
If weather cooperates and volunteers are available the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will host tours of Ned’s Point on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Children must be 48 inches tall to complete the tour.

Classic car enthusiasts can gather on Mattapoisett’s Town Wharf to share their hobby from 5 to 9 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 3
Play games.
The Mattapoisett Library will host its last snack event to celebrate its teen game lounge at noon.
Sunday, Aug. 4
See drums.
Dartmouth’s Symphony Music Shop will host the Southcoast Drum Show from noon to 4 p.m. at the Mattapoisett Knights of Columbus Hall. Admission to the general public will to view and sell drums will be $10. Admission for senior citizens will be $5. Children 10 and under will be free. Attendees with paid admission can also bring in drum items to sell for a small fee.

Midsummer Shakespeare and Glass Horse Shakespeare “Much Ado About Nothing” will be performed at 1 p.m. at Shipyard Park. Performances are free, but donations will be accepted.
Hear chamber music.
Music From Land’s End will present a chamber music concert at the Marion Music Hall at 7:30 p.m.
Monday, Aug. 5
See Block Island.
The Rochester COA is heading to Block Island for the day on Monday, Aug. 5 at 7:30 a.m. The van will return to Rochester at approximately 5:30 p.m. The cost for this trip is $22.75, and ferry ticket. Advance sign-up is required. Call 508-763-8723 to make a reservation.
Hear about dementia.
Author and dementia expert Kelly McCarthy will present her book “Brass Ring Memoirs” on communicating with, and caring for those affected by memory challenges at the Marion Council on Aging at 12:30 p.m. The first six attendees to RSVP to 508-748-3570 will receive a signed copy of McCarthy’s book.
Tuesday, Aug 6
Learn science.
Rochester Memorial School teachers will visit Plumb library with activities for children aged four and up. At 10:20 the program will feature “Buzz” Weigel. Registration on the library event site is required for this program.
Shop veggies.
The Old Rochester Regional Junior High School parking lot will host the Farmers’ Market from 3 to 6 p.m.
See a fire truck.
Tri-town first responders will host a National Night Out from 5 to 8 p.m., offering kids and families a chance to meet police officers, firefighters, members of the Harbormaster’s Department. There will also be food and games at the event.
Browse books.
Inspired by food tastings, the Mattapoisett Library will host a book tasting at 5:30 p.m. to allow teens to see some of the new titles in the library’s collection. The event will also include refreshments.
Watch a film.
As part of its Docu-Tuesdays series, the Elizabeth Taber Library will hold a film screening of award winning documentary STRAWS from 6 to 8 p.m. The event also features a reusable materials fair.
Hear about art.
The Mattapoisett Museum will have a 7 p.m. lecture by Jill Sanford exploring American art from colonial times to today. Sanford’s free lecture will encompass both traditional and folk art, and challenge the audience to see in new ways. Visit www.artforyourmind.com for more information.
Wednesday, Aug. 7
Lunar learning.
At 11 a.m. at Plumb Library in Rochester Pat Monteith, NASA solar system ambassador and author, will offer a trip back in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the lunar landing. Participants will also take part in different hands-on activities. Ages eight and up and families are welcome. Registration is required.
Celebrate the Marion COA.
The Friends of the Marion COA will host an “Evening on Sippican Harbor” from 4 to 7 p.m. The event will celebrate the Council on Aging and launch the next phase of fundraising, which will build walls between offices in the Community Center. Celebration tickets are available at the General Store and at Serendipity for $30.
