Oct 24, 2019

With Halloween just a week away, there’s a lot of spooky things to do in the tri-town this week.

Friday, Oct. 25

March through Mattapoisett.

The Mattapoisett Library Halloween parade will start at 10:30 a.m. A second parade will be on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at the same time. Costumes are encouraged but not required for these parades. If special accommodations are needed, contact the library at 508-758-4171 for assistance.

Tuesday Oct. 29

Tell a scary story.

Teens ages 12 and up can read their favorite scary story, or share one that they have written at the Mattapoisett Library at 6 p.m. Sign up for a ten minute slot to read a story, and the best and scariest one will win a prize. Refreshments will be served. Registration will be open up until time of event.

Trick or treat at Old Colony.

The “not so haunted hallways” at Old Colony Regional Technical Vocational High School will be open to trick or treating from 6 to 7 p.m.

This is a free event, but donations are encouraged to help support events later in the year.

Wednesday, Oct. 30

Party at the Taber Library

The Elizabeth Taber Library will have a Halloween party from 3 to 5 p.m. with book crafts, spooky stories and treats. Patrons interested in exploring the paranormal can also check out Taber Library’s ghost hunting kit.

Learn about historical hauntings.

The Mattapoisett Library will host Christopher Daley’s Haunted New England presentation at 6:30 p.m. Melding historical fact with legend and myth, Daley will present a new look at events that really happened and the stories of haunting that followed them.

Thursday, Oct. 31

March through Marion.

The annual Marion Halloween Parade will gather in front of the Marion Music Hall at 4 p.m. Participants of all ages are invited, and encouraged to wear a costume.

The parade will line up on cottage street and then head south on Front Street, up Main Street, north onto Spring Street and back down Cottage Street to the Music Hall. Once there, volunteer witches from the Marion Art Center will hand out surprise goody bags.

Trick or treat with witches.

From 4 to 6 p.m. the Rochester Women’s Club witches will hand out candy for local trick or treaters. The Woman’s Club will be at its club house, the Town Hall Annex.

Parade with the police.

The Mattapoisett Police Department will hold its annual Halloween Parade and costume contest at 6 p.m. behind Center School. The parade will start at 6 p.m. and the judging for the costume contest will take place at 6:40 p.m. behind the school near the gym. In the event of rain, the contest will take place inside the gym.
