Thursday, February 14

Revisit high school with “Heathers.”

Tabor Academy will present the opening night of  “Heathers: the Musical,” a satire dealing with the challenges of teenage life for the first time on Valentine’s Day. The show will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Tabor’s Fireman Center for the Performing Arts in Hoyt Hall. No tickets are required. 

Friday, February 15

See “Heathers” night two.  

Tabor Academy will present the“Heathers: the Musical,” a satire dealing with the challenges of teenage life as its winter musical. The show will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Tabor’s Fireman Center for the Performing Arts in Hoyt Hall. No tickets are required. 

Saturday, February 16

Go for a walk with a sweetheart.

The Sippican Lands trust will host a Valentine’s Day walk for Couples at its Aucoot Woods property a few days after the holiday. The couples walk will take off from the end of Parlowtown Road at 1 p.m. and last for about an hour. Wear shoes that can handle mud or ice.

Go for a walk to meet someone new. 

Later on Saturday, the Sippican Lands Trust is offering singles the chance to meet someone on a walk, also held at Aucoot Woods. The group will depart from the end of Parlowtown Road at 3:45 p.m, and walk for about an hour. Participants should also dress for ice or mud. 

Catch “Heathers” before it closes.

Monday, February 18

Go see a concert. 

A cellist, pianist and two violinists from Tabor Academy’s Applied Music Program will present a recital of diverse music at 6:30 p.m. in the Lyndon South Auditorium of the Stroud Academic Center. 

Tuesday, February 19

Go to kids author talk. 

At 11 a.m. the Mattapoisett Library will host author reading and book signing by Michelle Cusolito, the author of “Flying Deep: Climb Inside Deep Sea Submersible Alvin.”Registration with the Children’s Department is required for this event. 

Do some crafts.

At 1 p.m. the Mattapoisett Library will hold a Rainbow Fish storytime and craft for students in Kindergarten through second grade. From 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. the library will host a Harry Potter storytime and craft session for children who are slightly older, in grades three to six. Registration with the Children’s Department is required for this event. 

Learn about metal. 

From 1 to 2 p.m. Ms. Emma from Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School will offer a program called “Science at the Library: Metal Exploration” at Plumb Library. The welding student will teach about properties of metal.  Register at the Plumb Library’s Event Calendar found on their website. This program is best for ages 5 and up.

Read together

From 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. the Mattapoisett Library will host a family storytime, open to children of all ages. 

Explore the senses. 

Science at the Library will continue at Plumb Library from 1 to 2 p.m., when it will explore the senses. Ms. Beth from Ebb and Flow Wellness will provide an hour of sensory exploration. Registration is required. This program is also best for ages 5 and up.

Thursday, February 21

Play games.

The Mattapoisett Library will host a board games day for students aged 7 and up. This event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Test your luck. 

As part of its children’s activities, Plumb Library will host Family Bingo. Interested families should register on the Events Calendar All ages are welcome. Adults can play, or help their children. We will play several games, with small prizes awarded after each game. Please bring a gently used book to donate to the prize selection.  Registration is required.

Friday, February 22

Explore pressure and suction. 

From 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Science at Plumb Library will continue with Ms. Brenna, a junior Friend of the Library, leading an exploration of pressure and suction. Registration is required for this program, which is also appropriate for children 5 and older.

Settle down for a film.

For the final day of the week the Mattapoisett library will screen the movie “Ponyo” from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The movie is recommended for student ages 5 and up. 

Celebrate Friday. 

At the Plumb Library from 2 to 3 p.m., children of all ages (and a grown-up if needed) can register for a “Thank Goodness It's Friday story time” and craft with Amos, our therapy greyhound, and his "mom," Holly.  Holly and the Junior Friends of the Library will read stories to Amos and children, and then do a craft project. Registration is requested for this event.
