Eat a pulled pork dinner

The Friends of the Rochester Senior Center will be hosting a Meet, Greet, and Eat Dinner at 5:30 p.m. The event will feature a pulled pork sandwich bar with all the fixings. Guests are encouraged to sign up before the event. Call (508) 763-8723 for more information.

Bid at an auction

The Annual Auction for Onset Fireworks will be at the Mezza Luna restaurant in Buzzards Bay Massachusetts from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The live/ silent auctions and raffles will feature donations from local businesses.This event is the largest fundraiser of the year to support Onset Fireworks. Seating is first come first served. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. A cash bar and Italian buffet will be included. Saturday, June 22

Run a 5k with prizes

The 23 annual Marion Village 5K will be held on Saturday, June 22 at 9 a.m. Race applications are available at www.racewire.com, where runners can register on-line. All proceeds from the race will benefit youth recreation programs in Marion. The race will begin and end on Front Street at Tabor Academy. 

Sunday, June 23

Take a historic tour

Jennifer McIntire, Mattapoisett Historical Society President, will start the second “history walk and talk” tour at 10 a.m. at the Mattapoisett Museum and lead participants to the waterfront. Walkers will learn the history of Shipyard Park and see other points of interest.

Go to a barbeque

The Saint Rose of Lima Church in Rochester will hold its Chicken Barbecue at noon. The menu includes half a chicken with cranberry sauce, a vegetable, potatoes, rolls, watermelon, and a beverage. Meals will be available from noon to 3 p.m., or while supplies last. Tickets may be purchased after weekend masses or on the day of the event. They will be $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. There will also be games, a bouncy house, dunk tank, raffles, a silent auction and a white elephant table. St. Rose of Lima is just off Route 105 in Rochester, at 282 Vaughan Hill Road.

Eat at a clambake

The Knights of Columbus will host their annual clambake from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Knights’ Hall. Tickets for the event are $40, and are only sold in advance. Call Jim at 508-863-3496 to purchase tickets.

Celebrate birthdays

The Rochester Senior Center will hold its Quarterly Birthday Luncheon and Party for those celebrating birthdays in the months of April, May and June at noon. In addition to lunch, entertainment will be provided by “Paid in Full” (Alice Soares and Bill Guilmette). Call 508-763-8723 to reserve a spot, and be prepared to pay $5 if your birthday is not in April, May or June.

See a magic show

Magician and juggler Scott Jameson will perform at the Music Hall in Marion at 2 pm. This event is sponsored by the Marion Cultural Council.

Tuesday, June 25

Listen to live music

From 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., children and families can blast off into outer space with the Toe Jam Puppet Band as it plays original songs from its CD, Toe Jam In Outer Space! The show features a space-y dress-up puppet show and some crazy anti-gravity dancing. Weather permitting, this will be an outdoor show at the Plumb Library Gazebo. Registration is appreciated. The performance is sponsored by the Rochester Cultural Council.

Run a mile in Marion

The Marion Mile summer running series for kids will open its 18th season  6 p.m. on the Tabor turf fields on Spring and Front streets. The runs are open to all kids age 14 and under. There will be a mile run for ages 7 to 14 and a half mile for runners 6 and under. The cost is $20 for the entire summer series. Runners will receive a t-shirt and ribbons for each run. Series leaders will also receive trophies. Wareham Pediatrics is the sole sponsor for the series. Write a poem

The Marion Art Center will host the first ever meeting of its newly-created Poetry Group from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Art Center. The group is for both regular and more infrequent poets and will meet monthly on the last Tuesday of each month. There is no cost to join. Organizers ask that participants bring an open mind, an open heart, and 1 to 3 poems to share with the group. During the first meeting, participants will decide on an official name for the Poetry Group, work out a few logistics, and then workshop some poems in a friendly, supportive atmosphere. See a planetarium

Kids will learn about science through an inflatable planetarium at the Music Hall in Marion at 2 p.m.  Topics include astronomy, geology and physical geography. Registration is required to attend.
