Three green projects to save Marion $22,000 a year

MARION — Town Planner Gil Hilario outlined for Selectmen three goals that the town is working on as part of its green community designation.

Hilario last updated Selectmen in March and appeared before them with another update on July 16. He said the town would work with Providence-based Energy Source to install a new boiler in Fire Station One, update the ventilation in Sippican School, and also install lighting in the school.

The gas boiler would save the town $800 a year, and replace a more inefficient 20-year-old boiler. The ventilation would save the school $7,200 a year, and the new lighting would save them $12,000 a year.

Overall, the three projects, which will be paid for with grants that also cover the cost of removal, will save the town $22,000.

Hilario hopes that all the work on the projects will be finished by September.
