Town Election recount in Rochester upholds Park Commission victory

May 11, 2012

After falling short by two votes in a recount of the April 11 Town Election votes, Rochester Park Commission incumbent Travis Lalli was edged out by first-time candidate Kenneth Ross.

In April, Ross walked away with 120 votes to Lalli's 119. However, in a recount of the election results on Thursday, May 10 Ross emerged victorious once again only this time by a slightly wider margin.

Town Clerk Naida Parker said the recount showed that Ross had collected 121 votes while Lalli had only received 118.

Parker first announced there would be a recount on April 23, and added that this is not "uncommon" for Rochester elections.

In the past, recounts have shown counting errors, Parker said.

The recount only took one hour, and both candidates were on hand for the results.

"Both gentlemen were very good about it," Parker said. Nobody expressed any shock and there was no unpleasantness. I've certainly seen other recounts where there was more tension but this went very smooth."
