Town House renovation hearing set for June 23
Residents are invited to offer their thoughts on the future of the Marion Town House at a public hearing set for Tuesday, June 23 at 7 p.m. in the Music Hall.
The Marion Town House Building Committee and representatives from Turowski 2 Architecture, a Marion business, will host the event.
Committee Chair Bob Raymond said renovation options and possible expansion will be discussed for what is, “probably the most iconic building in Marion.”
Built 139 years ago, the Town House requires extensive repairs to meet building codes.
Raymond said the committee and architects need the community’s input to develop plans, which may include building a community center home to the Town House, a Senior Center and an expanded Elizabeth Taber Library.
At a public hearing held two years ago, Raymond said residents were against demolishing the Town House.
“They told us, ‘whatever you do don’t tear that building down,” Raymond said. “That was beneficial for us to hear.”
The June 23 hearing is open for residents to express opinions and share ideas about the project. No final designs have been developed yet.
Following the hearing, committee members and architects will develop conceptual designs. Those plans will be presented at a public meeting to be held later this summer.
“We will be making sure people understand the whole breadth of this process and where are in it,” Raymond said. “There are a lot of steps in a major building project such as this one.”
The Marion Town House Building Committee was formed by Selectmen last summer to explore four renovation options.
Raymond said the committee’s goal is to provide modern town facilities in a restored building that fits the character of the town.
