Tri-Town to receive new exit signs

Sep 27, 2020

Exit signs on the I-195 for the Tri-Town will be changed to a mile-marker based system as part of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation Exit Renumbering Project

Construction across the state is set to begin this fall, with all MassDOT-owned highways receiving new exit numbers.

In a post on Facebook, Mattapoisett Fire Rescue indicated construction on the Mattapoisett exits on the 195 is slated to begin in October. Exits 19A and 19B will be changed to 31A and 31B, corresponding to the existing mile markers on the highway.

In Marion, exit 20 will be changed to exit 35.

90% of the project’s funding comes from federal funding, with the other 10% coming from state highway funds.

According to the project’s website, the signs are being renumbered to allow for more driver-friendly navigation, easier reporting of accidents, and easier navigation for emergency services. The project will also contribute to national uniformity of exits.

More information on the project, as well as an interactive map showing all the affected exits in the state, can be found at newmassexits.com.
