Tri-Town sees 8 new covid cases amid national uptick

Jul 22, 2021

The Tri-Town had eight new cases of covid in the week leading up to July 22, the most in a single week since late may.

Of the eight, four cases came from Marion, two from Mattapoisett and two from Rochester, according to state covid data.

The local uptick reflects a national trend as the country has seen a rise in the more contagious delta variant of the virus.

Despite the cases, all three towns remain “gray” on the state’s covid risk map, meaning each town has under 10 ongoing cases.

Vaccination rates held steady across all three towns during the week.

75% of Marion and Mattapoisett residents are fully vaccinated for covid. In Rochester 56% are fully vaccinated.

82% of Marion and Mattapoisett residents and 61% of Rochester residents have had one dose of a covid vaccine.

State covid data is released every Thursday.
