Tri-town Selectmen seek answers on ORR cyber attack

The disappearance and subsequent return of anywhere between $100,000 and $600,000 from an Old Rochester Regional High School account will face scrutiny on Thursday, April 10.

At Rochester's Monday night Selectmen meeting, Town Administrator Rich LaCamera said the tri-town boards of selectmen would meet that night at 7 p.m. in ORR’s media center.

Selectmen and members of ORR’s school committee will discuss the theft, which was the result of a cyber attack that took place two years ago.

The news became public after Mattapoisett Town Administrator Mike Gagne said a resident told him a large sum of money was taken from an ORR account during a March 11 open meeting.

Since then Gagne and Superintendent Doug White have disagreed on how much was taken. Gagne says White told him $600,000 was stolen. White maintains the number was only $134,000. Both agree that all but $34,000 of the initial stolen funds was returned.

LaCamera said he expects that the upcoming meeting and discussion will be held in open session.
