Two Tri-Town residents raise over $21K during Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride
More than 300 bike riders raised over $240,000 in an effort to protect and restore Buzzards Bay during the Sunday, Oct. 6 Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride.
At the annual fundraising event for the Buzzards Bay Coalition, 323 cyclists rode towards Woods Hole on either a 100, 75 or 35 mile route. The 35-mile route began in Rochester.
Two Tri-Town riders placed near the top of the fundraising leaderboard.
The Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride’s top fundraiser was Geoff Sullivan of Fairhaven, who raised $23,255. Following Sullivan were Lizanne Campbell of Mattapoisett, who raised $10,950, and Will Saltonstall of Marion, who raised $10,575, according to a Buzzards Bay Coalition news release.
“I live and breathe everything connected to Buzzards Bay: smelling the salt air outside, sailing on the weekends, the architectural work I do for residential clients near the bay,” Saltonstall said in a news release.
The top fundraising teams were the South Coast Bikeway team, who raised $42,516, and the Sippican Sailors, who raised $73,900.
The Sippican Sailors total included a matching gift offered by “an anonymous group of Marion friends,” the release said.
“It’s all about advocating for water quality,” Saltonstall said. “Ultimately, in my lifetime I’ve seen a significant decline in the bay and different areas. For me, it’s the work that they’re doing. It’s about protecting these coastal areas.”
Donations will continue to be accepted until Sunday, Oct. 20 and can be made at savebuzzardsbay.org/ride. The 2025 Watershed Ride will be held Sunday, Oct. 5.
