Upcoming events at tri-town Council on Aging

The Council on Aging agencys in the tri-town will each hold several events in the month of November. For a full list of events, contact the COA or visit their website.  

Rochester COA:

On Saturday, Nov. 3, there is a day trip to the Boston Christmas Festival. There will be 350 exhibitors, a farmers marketplace, and gingerbread house displays. The trip leaves at 8 a.m. and returns at 5:30 p.m., and it costs $12. 

On Monday, Nov. 5, Linda Medeiros will share a cooking demonstration at the Senior Center at 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be served following the demonstration at noon. Participants do not need to be present for the demo to have the lunch, but there is a suggested donation of $4 for the meal.

Call ahead of time to reserve a spot at the lunch or to ask for a ride. 

On Friday, Nov. 16, the annual Thanksgiving dinner for Rochester seniors will be held In conjunction with the Rochester Firemen’s Association. To sign up, participants need to go in and reserve a ticket. There are only 100 tickets available for this event. 

The meal is prepared and served by Old Colony students in the Culinary Arts program.

Mattapoisett COA:

On Thursday, Nov. 1, speaker Dorene M. Rentz, PsyD, will show a PBS documentary “Can Alzheimer’s Be Stopped?” The event will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

On Tuesday, Nov. 6, Barbara Canuel will demonstrate how to make fall desserts healthier. Free lunch will be served at 11:30 and the demonstration will take place at noon.

Marion COA:

On Monday, Nov. 5, at 12:30 p.m., a one-man play will be performed by Stephen Collins at the Benjamin D. Cushing Community Center. Written by Carl Rossi, Sailing Towards my Father explores the life of Herman Melville, the American author best known for his whaling epic Moby Dick. 

On Tuesday, Nov. 6th at 10:00 a.m. The Sippican Lands Trust will partner with the Council on Aging for a walk at Brainard Marsh on Delano Road. Participants should meet at the property's parking area a few minutes before the walk starts.

On Nov. 13, there will be a day trip to the Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School for lunch at 11:30 a.m. The meal is chowder, a choice of chicken cordon bleu or scrod, and dessert. The cost of the meal is $10.50 plus tax and tip. Sign ups began Oct. 30.
