Veterans Day ceremonies Nov. 11
All three towns are hosting Veterans Day memorial services Friday at 11 a.m., with keynote speakers and special music provided by elementary schools. Veterans Day is observed each year to honor America's veterans to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
Marion
The Benjamin Cushing VFW Post 2425 will host the town’s ceremonies at Old Landing Memorial Park on Front Street.
United States Air Force Colonel Timothy White, also a professor at the Newport Naval War College, will be the guest speaker. White educates field grade officers from joint and allied forces in joint military and maritime operations.
The Sippican School band will provide music for the ceremonies.
Mattapoisett/Rochester
The Florence Eastman Post 280 American Legion will hold the annual Mattapoisett Veteran's Day Ceremony on Friday, November 11 at the Old Hammondtown School at 11 a.m. This year, the ceremony will also be in remembrance of the 10th anniversary of September 11.
The program includes remarks by Commander Michael Lamoureux, Senator Mark Montigny and Representative William Straus; music from the Old Hammondtown School concert band and chorus; and keynote speaker United States Navy Commander R. Scott Harrill from the Newport Naval War College.
The Mattapoisett Veteran’s Office serves both Mattapoisett and Rochester.
