Move over "American Idol."
Over fifty students of the Rochester Memorial School brought out their inner rock star on March 2 for the nineteenth annual Talent Show featuring ballad singers, Irish step dancers, classical pianists and jazz routines.
Not to be outdone by the students, the school’s staff band closed out the show with their own rhapsody, “We will teach you.”
The annual talent show was organized by the school’s student council, as well as student staff advisors Scott Huckabee and Danni Kleiman. Nineteen years ago, Kleiman organized the first show at Rochester Memorial, which she says has welcomed a wide variety of talents each year.
“I think that this was a great showing,” Kleiman said. “It gets better and better each year. This year no one seemed to get stage fright either.”
There are no auditions and no rehearsals Kleiman said.
The show collected donations for the Nurse Thayer Memorial scholarship, available for Rochester students who are pursuing a career in medicine.
Student Ava DeMaggio, who played a piano instrumental, said she wasn’t nervous at all to take the stage.
“It was fun,” DeMaggio said. “I liked watching my friends sing.”
