The Mattapoisett Historical Society will have an evening of pictures of “Mattapoisett 100 Years Ago” on Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Mattapoisett Library, 7 Barstow Street. Seth Mendell will narrate the presentation of pictures taken from glass lantern slides and will welcome help from the audience in identifying buildings and streets as they appeared a century ago.

Glass lantern slides were developed in Germany in the 1850s and “Magic Lantern” slideshows were popular through the turn of the century. This collection of slides of Mattapoisett and the surrounding area were taken around 1900. The images in the presentation have been digitalized and will be shown as a PowerPoint presentation on a large screen.
