Walk set May 28 at Alves Riverfront
MATTAPOISETT — The Mattapoisett Land Trust will lead an Alves Riverfront Walk at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 28 along upper portions of the tidal Mattapoisett River.
The trust is working to preserve the four-acre Alves parcel and open the land for public use and river access.
Placing the Alves parcel and other nearby lands in conservation protects important wildlife habitat, buffers Mattapoisett from climate change impacts, and opens a beautiful area of meadow, forest and riverbank to public enjoyment, land trust officials said.
In addition, this parcel and nearby lands include some of the earliest sites in Mattapoisett settled by Europeans.
The walk will depart from 3 Mattapoisett Neck Road, just south of Route 6. Park on the west side of Mattapoisett Neck Road across the street. The terrain is gentle but wear sturdy, mud-proof shoes and dress for the weather.
