Week of fundraising for Mattapoisett Friends Meeting

The Mattapoisett Friends Meeting begins 10 days of activities on Saturday, Aug. 2 to raise funds for the 1827 meeting house on Route 6

So far, $80,000 has been raised of the $245,000 estimated cost of repairs. Work on Phase 1 is expected to start in late August or September.

Several local businesses will donate a percentage of their sales to the meeting house on designated days, including On the Go on Monday, Aug. 4; vintage and antique postcards at Rogers Gallery Aug. 5 to 9; Gail’s Goodies on Aug. 7 and Oxford Creamy from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 25.

On Saturday Aug. 2 a yard and craft sale will be held at the meeting house, 103 Marion Rd. (Route 6.)

Saturday, Aug. 9 is donation day at the meeting house. From 8 a.m. to noon, residents can visit the meeting house and cemetery and bring items for the meeting’s planned October yard sale (no electronics.)

Cash and check donations, returnable bottles and cans and collectibles for possible sale will be accepted. Canned goods and other food for the St. Vincent de Paul Society food pantry at St. Anthony Church will also be accepted.

On Sunday, Aug. 10 area residents are invited to experience an abbreviated traditional Quaker worship hour at 9:30 a.m. followed at 10 a.m. by a talk on the history of Quakers in New England and Old Rochester in particular.

At 7 p.m. two visiting Quakers from Cuba will speak on the growing Quaker movement in that country and answer questions. The public is invited.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday are open for any business from Fairhaven to Wareham to plan a day of support.
