Whoops! Woman drives BMW over sea wall

Do BMWs float? A woman in Marion almost found out on Wednesday afternoon when she accidentally drove her car over the sea wall at the Old Town Landing.

Davis Sullivan, a Customer Representative at Burr Brothers, was the first on the scene.

“I was in the south yard and I heard a noise, a crumpling sound,” said Sullivan.

He walked over to the landing, which is adjacent to Burr Brothers.

“The car was at a 45 degree angle,” said Sullivan. “She was standing next to the car and was kind of surprised looking.”

The woman’s BMW was straddling the low sea wall and was still running.

“I turned off the car, grabbed the keys and got her purse off the seat,” said Sullivan.

Sullivan guessed that the directness of the four o’clock sunlight blinded the woman. “She probably couldn’t see the end of the wall,” he said. “Luckily it was low tide.”

Sullivan said the woman appeared to be fine. He called the police and went back to work.

“The tow truck probably did more damage getting the car off of the wall,” said Sullivan.

Marion Police officer Sergeant Jeffrey Tripp said that Murphy’s Auto Salvage in Wareham removed the car from the pier.

The driver of the car, whose name is not being released, was not transported to the hospital, said Tripp.
