Winter wonderland: Mattapoisett celebrates with Holiday in the Park
With tons of food, music from local students, a tree lighting and, of course, Jolly Old St. Nick, Mattapoisett residents celebrated another Holiday in the Park on Saturday evening.
Before the event, organizer Melody Pacheco said, "It's going to be bigger than ever. More food, more music, more everything!"
The snow ramped up just before the event began, but it didn't slow down the foot traffic. Families lined up to whisper their Christmas wishes into Santa's ear and to get snacks from local restaurants and organizations.
Chowder, home baked goods, lasagna and warm drinks greeted visitors under the tent at Shipyard Park.
"It’s unbelievable what we were given this year," said Pacheco.
The Lions Club collected nonperishable food for local food pantries as well.
Outside, Old Hammondtown School's band and choir performed in the gazebo as did the Showstoppers.
Everyone also gathered around the Christmas tree to countdown for the lighting as dusk fell.
Holiday in the Park was one of several events in Mattapoisett on Saturday. The library held a candy house decorating time, and the Mattapoisett Historical Society opened its doors for a drop in craft. Boy Scout Troop #53 also sold wreaths at Town Hall.
