Write nature haiku with poet Sheryl White
Inspired by nature and warm weather? Students in grades 3 to 8 are invited to explore writing haiku with artist and poet Sheryl White on Sunday, May 3 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Mattapoisett Library.
After taking a walk outdoors to the harbor, the students will come inside to write their poems. No previous creative writing experience is necessary. Registration is required. Call 508-758-4171 to sign up.
White has had her work published in the Boston Globe and other magazines. Always inspired by nature and the relationship to its beauty and power, she is captivated by the simplicity of haiku and the strength of its subtle imagery to place us in a moment, in a place, in a state of mind.
White works at the Arnold Arboretum in Boston and has led poetry walks as well as haiku walks and workshops in that landscape.
She also has a bachelor of fine arts and teaching certificate from the University of Michigan and has had many exhibitions.
This workshop is part of the tri-town libraries' MOBYfun (My Own Back Yard) year-long exploration of nature and science for students in grades 3 to 8. The program is made possible with federal funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
