Dr. Steve Mendes, of Marion, was given the Boston Children's Hospital's 2013 Community Pediatrics Award by the Pediatric Physicians Organization at Children's Hospital Wednesday, May 29.

Mendes, who works at Wareham Pediatrics, earned his MD and MPH at Boston University and did his residency at Brown University, where he won the Outstanding Residents Teaching Award and was named the Haffenreffer Fellow in Medical Sciences.

Mendes recently completed a term as president of the Tobey Hospital Medical Staff, and has served on the south Coast Hospitals Group Board of Trustees for three years.

He is also a member of the Pediatric Physicians Organization at Children's, which links Wareham Pediatrics with Children's to participate in a collaborative care program.

Boston Children’s Director of Community Pediatric Programs Julie Dollinger said, “The dedication of doctors like Steven Mendes allows us in Boston to embrace the South Coast region as our community.”
