Marion prepares for possible ambulance license revocation
Town Administrator Paul Dawson told Selectmen a plan is in place should the town’s ambulance service lose its license to operate.
“This is not a definite,” Dawson said. “We need to be prepared - to have information for us to make an intelligent decision.”
In June, Fire Chief Thomas Joyce said new state regulations made it impossible to qualify for an advanced life support license. Joyce asked Selectmen to hire additional staff, which would let the town meet state-mandated response times.
Voters at Annual Town Meeting this month will have to approve the request. Without a license, the department can’t offer certain treatments.
Should voters reject the request, Dawson said private ambulance contractors were solicited for rate information. The state has granted the department a series of license extensions. If the extension is revoked, the department may only offer back-up service.
