Clover Creek Farm opens barn doors for business

Only three months after purchasing a fixer-upper farm, the Milka family is open for business.

“It needed a lot of work. It’s still not where we want it to be, but it’s ready for horses to come in,” said Jackie Milka, whose parents Anita and Bill bought the 6.5 acre property on New Bedford Road.

The three quickly turned the property around, replacing the roof on the indoor arena and barn, ripping up concrete in the arena, replacing fencing, painting the barn, and hauling away several tractor-trailer loads of manure.

“It was pretty gross,” said Jackie.

But the 30-year-old farm, named Clover Creek Farm, has come together.

“No one noticed it before. Now that it’s painted and everything people keep stopping by,” Jackie said. “I’m excited for it. It’s always been my dream to have my own place to train out of.”

In 2008, the Rochester native graduated from Morrisville State College in New York with a bachelor’s degree in equine science and management. She also studied equine dentistry.

Jackie then worked at breeding farms in North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

“As long as I can remember, I’ve been obsessed with [horses],” she said. “I started riding when I was eight.”

At Clover Creek Farm, Jackie will be manager and help train students while her parents will focus more on the boarding aspect of the business.

Although there are many places to board and train horses in the area, the Milkas already have 13 of their 16 stalls full.

“I’ve heard from people that it’s hard to find an affordable place with an indoor arena,” said Jackie. “It’s hard to ride in the winter if you don’t have an indoor arena. I think there’s definitely a need for it.”

Clover Creek Farm is located at 268 New Bedford Road. Contact Jackie Milka at 910-508-4850 or milkajacqueline@yahoo.com.
