Award-winning poet Margaret Gibson will read from her work and from her forthcoming book “Broken Cup” at the Mattapoisett Library on Saturday, April 26 at 3 p.m. The public is invited to attend, and refreshments will be offered by the Friends of the Mattapoisett Library in honor of Poetry Month.

Margaret Gibson is the author of ten books of poetry all published by the Louisiana State University Press. She is also the author of a memoir, “The Prodigal Daughter, Reclaiming an Unfinished Childhood,” published in 2008 by the University of Missouri Press. Her poetry and other writing has appeared in many magazines and literary journals. She also edited “The New Virginia Review” for six years.

“Margaret Gibson has created a voice and an art that connect the sensuous experience of the physical work with the inner Life,” poet Pattiann Rogers wrote.

Professor Emeritus in English from the University of Connecticut and formerly on the creative writing faculty at the UMass Amherst, Gibson has been a finalist for the National Book Award, has been a Lamont Selection and has won several Pushcart Prizes for her poetry. She has taught in many schools, colleges and universities during her long career.
