Edith Pangaro, 90
Edith V. (Goddard) Pangaro, 90, a resident of Center Harbor, New Hampshire and a former winter resident of Englewood, Florida, died on Oct. 12 at home with members of her family by her side.
She was born in White Plains, New York to the late Frederick W.D. and Elisabeth (Layton) Goddard. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence P. Pangaro of Center Harbor, with whom she shared 65 loving and happy years. Their life together was blessed with a deep love and enduring friendship.
Mrs. Pangaro received her diploma from the Hartridge School for Girls in New Jersey, and was awarded a degree in elementary education from Wheelock College in Boston. She taught school in Cos Cob, Connecticut before raising her children. She spent 17 years teaching second grade at Rochester Memorial School, where she was commended as a very dedicated teacher who placed much importance on the needs of the individual student.
Mrs. Pangaro and her husband were co-founders of the Sippican Sentinel, an award-winning weekly newspaper in Marion. In the early days, she served in many capacities to help this new venture become a success.
She was an avid tennis player, winning many tournaments at the clubs to which she belonged, and at the Senior Olympics in Tucson, Arizona. While wintering in Arizona, she and Lawrence spent 15 years as instructors in the Tucson Community Tennis Program, mentoring students to love the sport of tennis.
She was a long-standing member of the Winnipesaukee Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She served as a former vice-regent of the Chapter.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Pangaro is survived by: two sons, David L. of Sausalito, Calif. and Dana G. (Judy) of Post Falls, Idaho; two daughters, Deidre P. (Brooks) of Mattapoisett and Diane (Dr. Paul) Lundquist, of Vail, Arizona; seven grandsons and one great grandson.
Memorial services are to be held at the New Church in New York City, at a future date.
