Town Clerk Naida Parker unveiled Rochester’s new voting machine on Monday.
When residents go to the polls in the April 8 election they will cast their ballots into the DS200 Digital Image Scanner.
“It is the most recently approved piece of voting equipment by the federal government,” Parker said, adding that New Bedford used the new machines in the previous governor’s race.
Voters at fall Town Meeting allocated $6,000 to purchase the machine. Parker said it cost between $4,000 and $5,000, and the remaining funds will be used to purchase ballots and other items related to the election.
During the Selectmen’s Monday meeting, board members voted to use the machine in state and federal elections.
