Chiron Physical Therapy seeks to offer convenient option with Mattapoisett office
Chiron Physical Therapy’s new Mattapoisett clinic is less than 10 miles from its Marion location, and there’s a very good reason for that says co-owner and CEO David MacDonald.
One of the company’s goals is to create neighborhood clinics with easy access to residents, and three and a half years since opening the Marion clinic, MacDonald said convenience is a major reason why the company has succeeded. .
Other options in the area require residents to travel outside of town.
“That’s not convenient for the patient,” said MacDonald, a Marion resident, co-owns Chiron with Kathryn Weegar and Jeff Feroc.
With Chiron’s Marion; South Riding, Virginia; and now Mattapoisett branches, the goal has been to set up offices in towns with a clear need for physical therapy services.
Beyond the quick commute, Chiron gives patients speedy service. Patients can see a physical therapist within 24 to 48 hours.
That is, no doubt, a draw for those anxious to get back on the golf course, the Little League field, or even to everyday life.
Patients’ getting results has helped Chiron get the word out. “Seventy percent of patients come from referrals,” MacDonald.
The changing nature of healthcare and the increasing popularity of physical therapy have helped business along as well, according to MacDonald.
“[Physical therapy] is becoming the primary care of muscular skeletal issues,” said MacDonald.
Those factors play into the expansion to Mattapoisett. Plus, Residents there already comprise about 20 percent of Marion’s patients.
MacDonald said the company also gets to know the people in the tri-town area so it can tailor services to meet their needs, from the 8-year-old peewee football players to the Council on Aging crowd.
“It’s a very active elderly population: sailing, tennis, running,” said MacDonald. “They’re not the typical 65 to 70 year olds.”
On the younger end, Chiron works with youth to encourage safety in sports.
An 8-week Fit Kids program is set to start soon that will teach young athletes how to develop skills to prevent injury.
As Chiron moves ahead, MacDonald said such programs will be a way to make sure the company is “growing with a purpose."
“Any growth opportunities we have will be centered around that.”
