Marion residents cleaned streets and celebrated spring on Saturday

May 10, 2015

Marion’s annual clean-up and accompanying Springfest was held May 9. The day began with the removal of trash from streets in the morning, and featured music, games and more in Washburn Park later in the day.

Residents have been participating in the event for more than 20 years. Originally held in April to honor Earth Day, the event was moved to May for the better weather.

Sponsored by the Sippican Lands Trust and the Tree and Parks Committee, the event featured live music from the Toe Jam Puppet Band and the Sippican School Band. Other activities included a birds of prey presentation, face painting, petting zoo and climbing wall.

Kids also played on the town’s fire trucks, police cruisers and Department of Public Works Equipment as the Marion Recreation Department opted to hold the “touch a truck” event in the same location as Springfest this year.
