Crowd festive for Marion Fourth of July parade

Jul 4, 2015

Festive floats, classic cars, fire trucks and more drove onto Spring Street while sirens wailed and marchers waved flags during Marion’s annual Fourth of July parade on Saturday morning.

Cheering spectators lined the 2.1-mile parade route that started and ended in the ball field behind the Town House.

The youngest parade participant was four-week old Zola Campbell who rode in a car with her parents and Peg Nowick of Marion.

“This is her very first Fourth of July parade,” Nowick said as she held Zola after the parade.

Gary Taylor is no stranger to the parade having marched before for the South Coast Community Church. On Saturday, he dressed as a film director, complete with megaphone, and walked alongside members of the Marion Art Center.

Since 2000, Taylor and his wife have been Art Center members acting, designing sets and helping out when possible.

While many locals participated, the parade drew people from across the South Coast.

Atop the largest tractor in the parade, Andrew Cioper of Acushent drove while Nick Procopio of Rehoboth relaxed on a fender. Cioper won second place in his particular class.

At the end of the parade, the Beverly Yacht Club won first place overall for their float. On behalf of the club, Tim Kelleher accepted a $100 check and large trophy.
