Take Your Child to the Library Day gets families in the stacks
Plumb Library was packed on Saturday as families came to participate in Take Your Child to the Library Day.
The event was an opportunity to introduce families to the library's services.
Library Director Gail Roberts said libraries offer books and so much more these days. The library has a telescope and snow shoes to loan, there are Lego hang out sessions and the Junior Friends also do a number of fun activities.
"This is to remind families that the libraries are there for them," said Roberts. "It's a fun place to bring kids."
During the two-hour event, several performers were on hand to entertain kids.
Vinny Lovegrove of the Toe Jam Puppet Band gave kids a lively show. Liz LaValley came as Professor Trelawney, a character from the Harry Potter series, to tell families their fortunes.
"You are a good dreamer," LaValley told 5-year-old Marley Perry. "You know what dreamers do? They write stories."
Alice in Wonderland also came to the party and took kids down the literary rabbit hole as she read from several picture books.
Bernadette Giandomenico brought her two elementary-aged kids to the event and said they've been patrons since they were toddlers.
"We love this library," said Giandomenico. "We're so fortunate to have it."
