Presentation on General and Mrs. Tom Thumb at Rochester Historical Society

The Rochester Historical Society will present a General and Mrs. Tom Thumb Program on May 18 at 7 p.m. at the East Rochester Church/Museum.

A PowerPoint program will describe the life of the world famous "little couple" Charles Sherwood Stratton and Mercy Lavinia Bump better known as General and Mrs. Tom Thumb. They performed for P.T. Barnum during the mid to late 1800s.

Lavinia was born and raised in Middleboro. After their marriage, she and Tom built a mansion there.

Dorothy Thayer and Daniel Thompson of the Middleboro Historical Association and Museum will present the program. Thayer is a retired high school social studies teacher while Thompson is currently teaching at Coyle Cassidy High and Middle School in Taunton.

Refreshments will follow the program.
