Tri-town athletes medal at Ghetto Games
Eight CrossFit athletes from the tri-town came home with medals from the Ghetto Games in Plainville on Sunday.
The competition pitted teams of two in four divisions squaring off against each other across the range of CrossFit activities: weightlifting, gymnastics, running, pushing a heavy sled and more.
Rachel Barrett of Rochester, teamed with Angie Willis of Wareham, finished second in the Women’s Intermediate division, followed by Becca Sylvia of Mattapoisett, teamed with Meredith Prinz of Wareham.
Finishing second in the Men’s Novice division was the team of Christian Thornell and Peter Newton, both of Mattapoisett. In the Women’s Novice division, Tammy Lapierre of Rochester and Lynette Lord of Mattapoisett took second place, followed by Amy Silva and Colleen Kennefick of Mattapoisett.
To begin the day-long event, Jillian Zucco of Mattapoisett sang the national anthem. Zucco, first runner up at this year’s Miss Massachusetts pageant and a dedicated CrossFit athlete, also competed in the Ghetto Games.
All told, approximately 200 CrossFit athletes from New England and beyond competed on Sunday. The tritown medalers were among the 42 athletes representing Seaside Crossfit of Wareham.
