Quiet season ahead for Mattapoisett election

Mar 29, 2017

With only one contested race this year, it looks like Mattapoisett will have an uneventful election season.

In the only contested race, two people are running for one seat on the Board of Health: incumbent Carmelo Nicolosi and George Randall.

For selectmen, it looks like Tyler Macallister will keep his seat as he runs for a third term. Macallister said he was inspired to become a selectmen because a friend once told him there are two types of people, “those who complain about it and those who get involved to help to make change.”

The other candidates are as follows: Assessor, Ray Andrews; Town moderator, John Eklund; Town clerk, Catherine Heuberger; Community Preservation Committee, Michelle Hughes and Charles McCullough; Mattapoisett School Committee, Charles Rider; Old Rochester Regional School Committee, Stefan Gabriel; Old Rochester Regional School Committee (vacant seat, two years), Deborah Dyson; Planning Board (vacant seat, one year), Gail Carlson; Planning Board (vacant seat), Janice Robbins; Trustee of Public Library Ruth Jolliffe and Jennifer Russell; Water/sewer commissioner, Daniel Chase; Mattapoisett Housing Authority, Suzanne Kennedy.

The election will be held Tuesday, May 16 at Old Hammondtown School.
