Old Colony student earns town scholarship

Old Colony senior Bethany Spangler has received a $1,000 scholarship from the town of Mattapoisett.

She is attending Southern New Hampshire University in the fall, where she plans to major in construction management.

Spangler originally attended Old Colony for welding, but fell in love with the hands-on aspect of carpentry.

“I like seeing what you can make in the end,” she said.

Her goal is to graduate with a master’s degree and open her own business. There, she would sell finished work that she makes, such as the bookshelf, cabinets and table she has made at Old Colony.

Spangler will be awarded the scholarship at Old Colony’s June 1 awards night.
