NBSO, BPZ collaborate on education workshop
On March 7, 2018, Carrie Hawthorne, Curator of Education at the Buttonwood Park Zoo, and Terry Wolkowicz, New Bedford Symphony Orchestra Education Director, will be presenting a workshop titled “Teaching for Transfer: Connected Explorations in Science and Music” for the 2018 Massachusetts Environmental Education Society (MEES) Conference at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. Both Hawthorne and Wolkowicz will share research in concept-based arts integration and curriculum examples from this year’s NBSO Learning in Concert program, “The Orchestra as Ecosystem,” which explores the connected concept of balance. Students in 55 schools all across the SouthCoast and Rhode Island are exploring balance among musical parts in classical music and balance among biotic aspects in a wetland ecosystem in this year’s Learning in Concert program.
