The Mattapoisett Board of Selectmen approved a 10-year aquaculture permit renewal for Copper Beach Farm, Inc. on Tuesday night.

The farm covers 2.5 acres and is located in Brandt Island Cove, between Mattapoisett Neck Road and Brandt Island Road. The selectmen said applicant Robert Field has been at the site for at least 10 years.

“Production has been ramping up, we’ve been doing well and we hope to continue,” Field said of his business.

Town Administrator Mike Gagne said he had visited the site a few months back, and had no problem with it.

“I think they do a very good job, I was quite pleased,” he said. “What’s nice is I think they’re highly sensitive to making their operation fit in the environment they’re in. I was impressed. I think they run a good operation there.”

The selectmen agreed, and approved the 10-year renewal.

“I have no issues,” Selectman Jordan Collyer said. “It’s a great operation, it’s clean.”
