Hope for de-entangling North Atlantic right whales

Jul 23, 2018

A July 20 talk by Marion resident and noted oceanographer Dr. Michael Moorefocused on netting and rope entanglements of North Atlantic right whales.

Speaking at the Marion Museum of Natural History, Moore, a scientist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution went into detail describing the damage conventional lobster fishing equipment does to a whale's anatomy.

The good news, he said, is that recently developed technologies will greatly reduce entanglements and help preserve the endangered whales.
