ORR student crowned Miss Massachusetts' Outstanding Teen
Old Rochester Regional High School student, Rachel Michelle-Marie Perry was crowned Miss Massachusetts' Outstanding Teen April 7. At the pageant, Perry went up against 14 other contestants at Keith Middle School in New Bedford.
For the talent portion of the competition, she performed a rock fiddle performance to Aerosmith’s Walk This Way.
Perry won $3000 in scholarships and multiple awards and gifts from pageant sponsors. She will be going to Orlando, Florida to compete at Miss America’s Outstanding Teen pageant. Qualifying for the pageant already guarantees her at least $1,000 in scholarships and also offers her the chance to compete for thousands more in scholarship funds.
Currently Perry is ranked first in her class, is enrolled in all Honors and four Advanced Placement courses and has a 4.0 GPA in her college classes. She was accepted into Cornell University as a junior but will enroll in the fall of 2020 because of her obligations as Miss Massachusetts’ Outstanding Teen.
Perry will dedicate her year of service to her platform, “Healing Song: The Power of Music to Restore the Brain”, which promotes the use of music therapy with sports and recreation-related concussion patients, mild traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) patients, and individuals with dementia and Alzheimers.
