MATTAPOISETT — After pausing work in mid-March due to coronavirus restrictions, the Buzzards Bay Area Habitat for Humanity is resuming construction on a single-family home. 

Starting May 30, the project will resume using only skilled volunteers on-site. 

Though it is not currently seeking non-skilled volunteers, the nonprofit is asking for donations of lunch items, coffee, snacks, water or gift cards to local restaurants to purchase food for the construction crew.

“We’re very excited to work again, and the family is very excited as well,” said Christine Lacourse, Executive Director of the Buzzards Bay Area Habitat for Humanity.

To protect volunteers, masks will be required on-site, and hand sanitizer and wipes will be provided. Lacourse said the volunteers will naturally be able to social distance when working in different parts of the home. 

Construction was started on the three-bedroom home in the end of December and will hopefully be completed by the end of August.

During the off-time, MHT excavating was able to install the house’s water system, something that Lacourse said actually worked out well because workers can’t be on-site when this happens.

The plot of land was donated by the Nicolosi family, and the house will go to a single mother with two daughters who was chosen by Habitat for Humanity when the project began. 

Any food donations are much appreciated. Site volunteers have coffee and lunch breaks, so donors can make or buy coffee, snacks, lunch items or water and coordinate with Lacourse on when to drop items off at the site.

To avoid contact, Lacourse also said that gift cards to local restaurants can be sent to P.O. box 1584, Mattapoisett, MA 02739. 

The local chapter of the nonprofit is also seeking a drywaller, a flooring company or siding company who could donate its time and/or materials to the project.
