The Mattapoisett Free Library and ORCTV are teaming up to host a virtual screening of “Stephano: The True Story of Shakespeare’s Shipwreck.”

The film tells the story of Stephen Hopkins, a Virginia-bound castaway who later was a passenger on the Mayflower and was eventually immortalized as Stephano, a drunken character in Shakespeare’s last play, “The Tempest.”

Two-time Emmy nominated producer Andrew Buckley and his gum-shoe crew, Hit and Run History, chase Hopkins’ story through time and space.

The event will be broadcast simultaneously on Facebook Live, on channel 36 for Verizon subscribers and channel 9 for Comcast subscribers.

After the screening, there will be a Q&A with Buckley.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Mattapoisett Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

The event will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, September 14.

For questions, call the library at 508-758-4171 or email at mfpl@sailsinc.org.
