Rochester receives $33,600 covid aid check from Plymouth County
ROCHESTER — Plymouth County Treasurer Thomas O’Brien presented the town of Rochester with a check on Oct. 23 for $33,602.20 as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act funding that the county received after covid shutdowns began in March.
“It would’ve been more, but they took out the tax,” Town Administrator Suzanne Szyndlar said jokingly.
“We have to follow the law,” O’Brien replied.
The check is the first Rochester has received from the county, with more funding on the way.
Under the CARES act, the town can use this money for anything coronavirus-related.
O’Brien said that Rochester has been a pleasure to work with and said it’s a place he loves to visit, calling it one of the county’s most beautiful towns.
Szyndlar returned compliments to the county, saying it has given the town a good deal of guidance and remained transparent throughout the funding process.
“This money is very important to us,” she said. “It’s helping our community; it’s helping our families; it’s helping our workers.”
