Bass Point Road fire under investigation
A house fire Saturday morning at Bass Point Road did not result in injuries, but the cause is still under investigation.
Fire crews from Marion, Mattapoisett, Rochester and Wareham responded to the home of Christine McGonagle (who was not at the property) where the basement and first floor were in flames, according to Chief Thomas Joyce.
Joyce said the fire started around the floor of the first level of the home, had burnt a large hole in the flooring and had extended into the attic space via the space around a chimney. The fire was extinguished in 20 minutes, but crews were on site overhauling the scene for several hours.
Extensive heat and smoke damage occurred throughout the structure.
While the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshall’s Office, it is not considered suspicious.
