Symphony Tales
On Saturday, March 3 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. children will be treated to a free performance of "Scritch Scratch a Perfect Match." An original score has been composed to accompany the story written by Kimberly Marcus, who will be present to sign copies of her book. The music will be performed by Peter Zay, a cellist with the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra. The education program has been made possible by the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra and the Friends of the Mattapoisett Library.
Kristen Boucher to Speak at Cooks and Books
Kristen Throop Boucher, RN, Health and Wellness Coach, and Certified Specialist in Fitness Nutrition with MIX Wellness and Founder of For The Love Of Fiber, a food blog dedicated to healthy eats, treats, and fun facts celebrating fiber, will be joining Cook and Books on Tuesday, March 6 to talk about whole grains, what they are, the health benefits, and how to easily and deliciously incorporate more into your life.
She is also the niece of Brendan McEntee, Founder & President of Mara's Pasta, a revolutionary whole wheat pasta that has successfully shattered the stigma associated with traditional whole wheat pasta.
Fiberlicious snacks will be served and free samples of Mara's Pasta will be given to attendees to take home. Come on down and see for yourself that healthy CAN taste great!
Family Story Time
The first Saturday of each month is Family Story Time. Children of all ages are welcome and no registration is required.
Used Book Sale
The Friends of the Mattapoisett Library will be holding a Used Book and Bake Sale on Saturday, March 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Hundreds of new titles will be available for both children and adults. Donations are welcome any day the library is open.
Jr Friends Can and Bottle Redemption
Bring your redeemable cans and bottles to the library on Saturday, March 10 from 9 to 10 a.m. to support the work of the Junior Friends.
Technology Workshops and E-reader Questions
Each Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and Fridays at 3 p.m. librarian Elizabeth Sherry conducts informal information sessions about ereaders, tablets, and downloading books. Stop by and bring your device or your questions and get started enjoying free ebooks and audiobooks.
Dr. Greg Johnson Speaks About Afghanistan
On Wednesday, March 14 at 7 p.m., Dr. Gregory Johnson of Wareham Orthopedics will present a program with photos and artifacts about his volunteer experience in Afghanistan during the years of the Soviet invasion in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Hear how he provided medical care to adults and children who were wounded as a result of bombing and land mines. Hear about the lasting bond he formed with the Afghan people. Food prepared from Afghani recipes will be available.
The Nature Principle
Mark your calendars for Thursday, March 29, when author and environmentalist Richard Louv will be speaking about The Nature Principle and the New Nature Movement at 7 p.m. at Tifereth Israel Congregation, adjacent to Buttonwood Park. The program is free to the public and many recreational and environmental organizations will be on hand to provide literature about their activities. Books will be available for purchase and signing.
