Magical Mattapoisett
The Magic of Lyn Illusionist Show will be held at 7 p.m at Old Hammondtown School in Mattapoisett.
Magician Lyn Dillies is a highly acclaimed illusionist who will deliver spectacular magic for audiences of all ages.

Learn about Ospreys
The Marion Natural History Museum and Sippican Lands Trust welcome Alan Poole for a talk on Osprey at the Marion Natural History Museum upstairs at 8 Spring Street from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Osprey are characteristic visitors to Buzzards Bay and will be heading down to southern bays and Caribbean and South American shores soon.

Friday, Aug. 18
Coastal explorations: Shellfish
Join the Marion Natural History Museum on a coastal exploration of Island Wharf from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Participants will learn about oysters and other shellfish with Marion’s Shellfish Warden, and hear about the important role they play in the bay.
This program is intended for grades 2-6, the group will also take a tour of local aquafarms and make fish print t-shirts. Participants are asked to bring a clean cotton t-shirt.
Tickets are $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers.
Whale of a time
Head to the Mattapoisett Free Public Library from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m for a reading of “Right Whale, Wrong Letter.”
Children will then participate in a musical activity where they will compose whale behavior and locomotion melodies and hear them performed on a piano.
Books will be available for purchase after the program.
Saturday, Aug. 19
Rochester Grange Fair
Head over to the Rochester Grange located at 205 Hartley Road for the annual Grange Fair from 1:30 to 7 p.m.
The fair will feature exhibits, baked goods and a raffle. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 10.
To enter items for judging at the Grange Hall, bring them to the hall on Friday, Aug. 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Judging will follow shortly after.
Bakers can also enter their favorite pies, pastries or any other baked goods. Crafters who made something they are especially proud of in the past year can bring it in and show it off.

Disability discussion
Stop by the Mattapoisett Free Public Library from 2 p.m to 3 p.m for a presentation by disability researcher, Chuck McIntyre.
Talking from the perspective of someone who has a learning disability, Chuck will cover many facets of the disabled community in his presentation.
Topics will include types of disabilities, ableism, allyship and more. Discussion to follow the presentation. Registration is not required to attend. Questions can be directed to the library by phone at 508-758-4171 or email to mpfl@sailsinc.org.
Explore tide pools
Join the Sippican Lands Trust at Brainard Marsh from 4 p.m to 5 p.m to discover tide pool dwelling critters. Participants are encouraged to bring shoes that can get wet.
The focus of this month’s exploration is macro algae. The group will learn how to preserve their findings in a plant press and some of the lore that goes with these cool algae.
